Fire Stopping

Essential to any fire safety strategy

ProductsInstallation Regulations

Modern buildings are full of services, cables and wires. Where these penetrate fire-resisting elements of the building they create a weakness in the fire protection for the building. These must be correctly sealed to maintain the building’s fire resistance levels.

Why do I need Fire Stopping?

Structural Fire Safety

Fire Stopping is an essential component of structural fire safety and a part of passive fire protection.
In accordance with the UK building regulations, all new refurbishments and building must incorporate Fire Stopping measures. By designing buildings this way, compartmentalisation ensures that fire is contained at its point of origin and therefore slows down the spread of flames and smoke. This saves lives by increasing the time people have to escape and reducing structural damage which means the building is less likely to collapse.

Fire Stopping is crucial to larger establishments, however it is effective solution to preventing the spread of fire and smoke within all types of buildings. By fire stopping voids and any services passing through them such as cables, pipes and ductwork, we can ensure compliance and effective performance of these structural elements in the event of a fire.

With a range of products adhering to approved industry regulations from fire doors, fire barriers, batt & mastic and fire compound our specialist teams cover all aspects of Fire Stopping. What is Fire Stopping?

Fire stopping is part of the passive fire protection for a building and is the practice of reinstating fire compartmentation or barriers which have been penetrated. The purpose is to prevent or slow down the spread of fire and smoke and keep it within zones or compartments. This prevents escape routes from becoming smoke logged to facilitate escape.

Fire Compartmentation

This is achieved by dividing the premises into ‘fire compartments’ through the use of fire doors, floors and walls of fire-resisting construction, cavity barriers within roof voids and fire stopping to services that penetrate through these dividing elements.
