Fire safety
Site Survey

Before any installation, we always conduct a thorough site survey to ensure compliant with to comply with BS 5306-3: 2017. The site survey ensures we recommend the correct number and type of fire extinguisher for your property.

During the site survey, our technician will:

  • Calculate the number of extinguishers required to provide suitable coverage across the site.
  • Locate fire hazards
  • Allocate the correct fire extinguisher to tackle the fire hazard
  • Ensure extinguishers are in prominent positions and can be acquired without risk
  • Recommend appropriate extinguisher signage where required
Extinguisher Commissioning

fire extinguisher maintenance

Once the extinguisher has been safely transited and removed from its packing, our FIA-Certified technicians will conduct a sequence of commissioning actions adhering to BS 5306-3.

Our technician will:

  • Attach the discharge nozzle to the device.
  • Check that the tamper device is intact.
  • Check the pressure gauge needle is in the green indicator.
  • Check that the extinguisher is free from corrosion and has no apparent physical damage.
  • Weigh the extinguisher and record the result on the maintenance label.

Once the technician completes this series of checks and confirms the extinguisher is fit for purpose, you will be provided with a fire extinguisher commission certificate.

Extinguisher Installation

After our technician has successfully transported and commissioned your fire extinguisher, it is safe to be installed.

Our technicians will have located the suitable positions for your fire extinguisher during the site survey. Ensuring your extinguishers are always in a prominent position and accessible.

There are two ways fire extinguishers can be installed as per guidance from BS 5306-3 : 2017:

  • Wall-mounted – where possible, extinguishers should be securely fitted to wall brackets. The carrying handle should be 1 metre from the floor. For extinguishers under 4kg, the handle should be 1.5 meters from the floor.
  • Fire Extinguisher Stands – Where it is impractical for the extinguishers to be wall-mounted, fire extinguisher stands can be used. Extinguishers should be placed within recessed housing or cabinets to avoid accidental damage and floor clutter.
