Why are fire doors important?

  • Fire doors prevent the fire or smoke from spreading across the building
  • Fire doors keep the fire contained to a particular compartment or room
  • Fire doors prevent more of your building and property from being lost to the fire than necessary
  • If you’re an employer it’s your responsibility to keep your staff and property safe from fire

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, landlords, employers and building owners are responsible to ensure all fire doors and fire safety equipment in their building are correctly specified, installed and maintained.

Fire doors, in conjunction with well-maintained fire alarm systems significantly reduces the risk of your property being damaged by fire. More importantly, it protects the lives of your staff.  One simple way to help protect your premises is to provide fire safety training. By providing training, your staff will be prepared in the event of a fire, ensuring their own safety and the safety of others.

The life-saving benefits of fire doors

When a fire broke out in a school this properly installed fire door averted disaster. A properly installed fire door can save your life or the life of your staff, customers or students.
