Sheringham Town Council Project – Town Wide CCTV Upgrade & Wireless Surveillance
Sheringham is well known for its picturesque coastline and vibrant community, but like many popular towns, it must also manage the ongoing challenge of keeping public spaces secure, particularly during the busy summer season.
With growing footfall, seasonal events and an increasing demand for 24/7 visibility, Sheringham Town Council knew it was time to invest in a smarter, more adaptable CCTV system, one that could provide improved coverage, clearer footage and additional control from their central offices.
Having provided reliable maintenance and support for the existing system over the past two years, ClearView was the trusted partner selected to deliver the upgrade. Key objectives included:
- Replacing outdated cameras with new high-definition static bullet units, complete with varifocal lenses.
- Making use of existing mounting infrastructure where possible.
- Establishing wireless and 4G connectivity to avoid complex or disruptive cabling.
- Providing a central monitoring point at the Council offices, with access to live and recorded footage.
- Allowing cameras to be moved or reconfigured based on seasonal changes in activity.
- Safety during installation and long-term ease of maintenance were also key considerations, particularly for equipment mounted at height.
ClearView solution:
ClearView installed a fully IP-based CCTV system that improves coverage, simplifies daily management and allows the Council to monitor everything directly from its main offices.
High-Performance Cameras with Audio
Seventeen static bullet cameras were installed across the town using existing columns, brackets and buildings. Each unit features a varifocal lens, enabling operators to choose between wide-angle views or focused, zoomed-in shots. The cameras can be relocated between pre-configured sites as the town centre needs shift, which is especially useful during peak visitor periods.
Wireless & 4G Connectivity
To connect the camera network without extensive groundworks, ClearView implemented a hybrid approach. Wireless transmission was used where line-of-sight was available between camera locations, while 4G routers were installed for sites where wireless links were not viable. The Council manages SIM cards and data plans, keeping connectivity under local control.
Centralised Monitoring with Maintenance Features
A full workstation was installed at the Town Council offices, providing staff with full access to live and recorded footage. The system is designed for ease of use, enabling operators to manage routine monitoring tasks without specialist training.
Video Management System
At the core of the solution is a high-performance, intelligent video management system. This enables operators to view multiple cameras at once, assign feeds to specific monitors, run automated tours and access alarm-based video replays. The system supports quick, coordinated responses to incidents while maintaining an intuitive user experience.
Gold Maintenance: Long-Term System Support
To safeguard their investment and ensure long-term reliability, Sheringham Town Council chose ClearView’s Gold maintenance plan, a proactive support package designed to keep complex CCTV networks running at their best. The plan covers all 21 cameras across the town, including bullet and PTZ units, with two scheduled visits each year.
Each visit includes a full system audit, detailed performance reporting, and on-the-spot repairs, reducing downtime and avoiding the need for follow-up callouts. High-mounted cameras are serviced, with all work delivered in line with ISO 45001 safety standards. The package also includes remote diagnostics and technical support, giving the Council confidence that their system remains fully operational.
